Who plays Detective Kat Tamin?

Detective Kat Tamin is played by Jamie Gray Hyder on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Hyder joined SVU as Kat Tamin during the show’s 21st season. Tamin is introduced as a detective transferred into the Manhattan Special Victims Unit, bringing a direct, outspoken investigative style to a squad led by Captain Olivia Benson.

The character is notable for advocating strongly for victims, particularly in cases involving marginalized communities. Tamin’s storylines also explore the pressures faced by police officers who challenge entrenched attitudes within their own department. Her time on the series overlaps with detectives Fin Tutuola and Amanda Rollins.

Kat Tamin is sometimes confused with other SVU detectives because several long-running characters joined or departed around the same period. Kelli Giddish played Amanda Rollins, Aida Turturro played Sergeant Teresi, and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio played Deputy Chief Zoe Callas. Jamie Gray Hyder is the actor associated with Tamin.
