Who played Willie Scott in Temple of Doom?

Kate Capshaw played Willie Scott in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Willie is an American nightclub singer working in Shanghai when she becomes entangled in Indiana Jones’s escape from crime boss Lao Che. She travels with Indy and Short Round to India, where the trio discovers the sinister activities beneath Pankot Palace. Unlike Marion Ravenwood in Raiders of the Lost Ark, Willie begins the adventure largely unprepared for danger, but she becomes an important part of the rescue mission.

More than 120 actresses auditioned for the role, including Sharon Stone. Spielberg selected Capshaw after watching her videotaped screen test and showing it to Harrison Ford. To create a visual contrast with Karen Allen’s Marion, Capshaw dyed her naturally brown hair blonde for the part.

Temple of Doom was released in 1984 and is set before Raiders, in 1935. Capshaw later married Spielberg in 1991. The film’s intense violence helped motivate the creation of the PG-13 rating by the Motion Picture Association of America.
