Who played the Fourth Doctor?
Answer
Tom Baker
Answer
Tom Baker
The Fourth Doctor was played by Tom Baker. He took over the role after Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor regenerated at the end of “Planet of the Spiders” in 1974.
Baker portrayed the Doctor from 1974 to 1981, spanning seven consecutive seasons and 172 televised episodes. His version became famous for his immense height, curly hair, wide-brimmed hat, colourful scarf and eccentric but warmly charismatic personality.
The Fourth Doctor travelled with companions including Sarah Jane Smith, Leela, K9, Romana and Harry Sullivan. A common mix-up is confusing Tom Baker with Colin Baker, who played the Sixth Doctor, or Peter Davison, who played the Fifth. Baker also returned in later Doctor Who appearances, including the 2013 anniversary special “The Day of the Doctor.”
