Jim Broadbent
Answer
Jim Broadbent
Jim Broadbent played Professor Kirke in the 2005 film adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s Narnia novel.
The film, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, was directed by Andrew Adamson and released in 2005. Broadbent portrayed Professor Digory Kirke, the elderly owner of the country house where the Pevensie children stay during the Second World War.
In the story, Professor Kirke is more perceptive than the adults who dismiss Lucy’s account of Narnia. His character connects the film with The Magician’s Nephew, the later-published prequel in which Digory is a central child character and helps explain the origins of the wardrobe.
The film starred Georgie Henley as Lucy, Skandar Keynes as Edmund, William Moseley as Peter, and Anna Popplewell as Susan. Tilda Swinton played the White Witch, while Liam Neeson supplied the voice of Aslan. Broadbent’s role is brief but important to the narrative frame.
