Who played Lestat in "Interview With the Vampire"?

The story behind the answer

Tom Cruise played Lestat in the 1994 film Interview with the Vampire.

Cruise portrays Lestat de Lioncourt, a charismatic and dangerous vampire who turns Louis de Pointe du Lac, played by Brad Pitt, into an immortal companion. The story begins in 1791 and follows their uneasy relationship across decades.

The film was directed by Neil Jordan and adapted from Anne Rice's 1976 novel. Rice initially objected to Cruise's casting because she imagined a different type of actor for Lestat, but she later praised his performance after meeting him and seeing the finished film.

The role is sometimes confused with other versions of Lestat. Sam Reid plays the character in AMC's television adaptation, while Stuart Townsend played him in Queen of the Damned. For the original 1994 movie, however, Tom Cruise is the canonical answer.
