Who played Dr. Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park?

The story behind the answer

Jeff Goldblum played Dr. Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park.

Malcolm is a mathematician specializing in chaos theory. In the 1993 film, John Hammond invites him to evaluate whether Jurassic Park can be safely operated. Malcolm warns that complex biological systems cannot be controlled as simply as the park’s designers believe.

Goldblum returned as Malcolm in The Lost World: Jurassic Park, where the character becomes the story’s central human figure. He later appeared again in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World Dominion, extending Malcolm’s role across several eras of the franchise.

Malcolm is often remembered for his black clothing, sarcastic delivery, and warnings about the dangers of unchecked scientific ambition. He should not be confused with Alan Grant, the paleontologist played by Sam Neill, or John Hammond, the park’s founder played by Richard Attenborough.
