What is the name of the fictional island where Jurassic World operates?

The story behind the answer

Jurassic World operates on the fictional island Isla Nublar.

The island is the setting for both the original Jurassic Park and the later Jurassic World park. In the franchise’s story, John Hammond’s company InGen developed Isla Nublar as the site for a dinosaur attraction, using genetically engineered prehistoric animals created from recovered DNA.

Jurassic World is built decades after the original park’s disastrous opening. It functions as a fully operating tourist destination before the Indominus rex escapes in the 2015 film. The island later faces further danger when Mount Sibo erupts in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Isla Nublar is often confused with Isla Sorna, also known as Site B. Isla Sorna is the separate island where InGen bred and raised dinosaurs before transferring some animals to Isla Nublar. The two islands therefore have different roles in the franchise’s fictional history.
