Who photographed Georgia O'Keeffe extensively and later married her?

The story behind the answer

Alfred Stieglitz photographed Georgia O'Keeffe extensively and later married her.

Stieglitz, a pioneering American photographer and influential gallery director, first exhibited O'Keeffe's abstract drawings in 1916. He subsequently made hundreds of photographs of her between 1917 and 1937, creating one of the most extensive photographic portraits of a modern artist.

They married in 1924. Their relationship connected O'Keeffe with New York's modernist art circles, although she maintained her own artistic identity and career.

Stieglitz is sometimes remembered only as O'Keeffe's husband, but he was also a major advocate for modern art in the United States. His galleries, including 291, helped introduce European and American avant-garde work to American audiences.
