Answer
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Georgia O'Keeffe spent her final years in Santa Fe, New Mexico, before her death in 1986.
O'Keeffe moved from her Abiquiu home to Santa Fe in 1984 because of declining health. She lived at 7-1/2 Acequia Madre, a historic adobe house that had been remodeled by architect William Lumpkins for her and her companion Juan Hamilton.
She died in Santa Fe on March 6, 1986, at the age of 98. Her ashes were scattered on Cerro Pedernal, the mountain she had painted repeatedly from her New Mexico homes.
Abiquiu remains strongly associated with O'Keeffe because she lived and worked there for decades, but it was not the location of her final years. Santa Fe also became the home of the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, which opened there in 1997 and continues to preserve her artistic legacy.
