Who performs the English vocal theme “Snake Eater” in Metal Gear Solid 3?

Cynthia Harrell performs the English vocal theme “Snake Eater” in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

The song plays over the game’s opening sequence and was written in the style of a 1960s espionage film theme. Its lyrics introduce the tone of Naked Snake’s mission and echo the game’s Cold War setting. The performance became one of the most recognizable musical pieces in the Metal Gear series.

Harrell’s recording is distinct from the instrumental and vocal music used elsewhere in the game. Metal Gear Solid 3 also includes music by Harry Gregson-Williams and other composers, but “Snake Eater” is specifically associated with Harrell’s lead vocal.

A common mix-up is Donna Burke, who performed later Metal Gear songs, including “Sins of the Father” for Metal Gear Solid V. Rika Muranaka is associated with several Metal Gear compositions, including “The Best Is Yet to Come” from the original Metal Gear Solid.
