Who named McDonald’s Big Mac hamburger?

The story behind the answer

Esther Glickstein Rose named McDonald’s Big Mac hamburger.

Rose was a McDonald’s advertising secretary who suggested the name in 1967. At the time, the sandwich was being developed as a larger, more substantial hamburger, and the proposed name helped give it a distinctive identity within the menu.

The Big Mac was created by franchisee Jim Delligatti, who operated restaurants in the Pittsburgh area. Delligatti developed the double-decker sandwich with two beef patties, a special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions on a three-part sesame-seed bun.

The sandwich first sold in selected markets before becoming a nationwide product in the United States in 1968. Delligatti is therefore associated with creating the burger, while Rose is credited with supplying its famous name.
