Who moved New York Fashion Week to Bryant Park in 1993?

The story behind the answer

Fern Mallis moved New York Fashion Week to Bryant Park in 1993.

Mallis, then associated with the Council of Fashion Designers of America, helped centralize New York’s previously scattered runway presentations. The Bryant Park tents created a controlled, media-friendly environment where designers could show collections near one another during the seasonal schedule.

The move was important because it made New York’s fashion week more coherent and easier for editors, buyers, photographers, and celebrities to navigate. Bryant Park became the event’s recognizable home for many years and helped establish the modern fashion-week format as a concentrated industry occasion.

New York Fashion Week later moved to other venues, including Lincoln Center and Spring Studios. The Bryant Park period should not be confused with the 1943 creation of Press Week, New York’s earlier organized fashion-promotion event.
