Who marketed ballpark nachos with cheese sauce in 1976?

The story behind the answer

Who marketed ballpark nachos with cheese sauce in 1976? Frank Liberto marketed them.

Liberto adapted nachos for stadium concessions by pairing prepared tortilla chips with a warm, pumpable cheese sauce. Unlike freshly grated cheese, the sauce could be served quickly, stored more easily, and remain consistent during a busy baseball game.

The product debuted during the 1976 season at Arlington Stadium, then home of the Texas Rangers. It proved especially successful because concession workers could assemble an order in seconds rather than baking each portion individually. The innovation helped make nachos a standard stadium food.

Liberto is sometimes mistakenly described as the inventor of nachos. Ignacio “Nacho” Anaya created the original dish in 1943 in Piedras Negras, Mexico. Liberto's achievement was commercializing a modern, concession-friendly version with cheese sauce. Howard Cosell's later television mentions also helped spread the snack beyond Texas.
