Who is the youngest golfer to win the Masters Tournament?
Answer
Tiger Woods
Answer
Tiger Woods
Tiger Woods is the youngest golfer to win the Masters Tournament. He won the 1997 Masters at Augusta National Golf Club at age 21, setting a record that still stands.
Woods did much more than simply win. He finished 18 under par, 12 strokes ahead of runner-up Tom Kite, producing the largest winning margin in Masters history at the time. His performance announced the arrival of a major new star and helped transform golf’s popularity worldwide. He also became the first player of African American or Asian-American heritage to win the Masters.
The record is sometimes confused with other Masters age milestones. Jack Nicklaus was the youngest champion before Woods, winning in 1963 at age 23. Jordan Spieth later became one of the tournament’s youngest winners when he captured the title in 2015 at age 21, but he was older than Woods was at the time of his victory. Seve Ballesteros won twice, in 1980 and 1983, but was not the youngest champion.
