Who is the villain known as Doctor Octopus?

The story behind the answer

The villain known as Doctor Octopus is Otto Octavius. He is a brilliant but arrogant nuclear physicist whose mechanical tentacle harness became fused to his body after a laboratory accident.

Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Doctor Octopus first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #3 in 1963. His four powerful arms can lift heavy objects, cling to surfaces, and operate with remarkable precision. He controls them through a neurological interface, making him a dangerous combination of scientist and superhuman combatant.

Doctor Octopus is one of Spider-Man’s most important recurring enemies and helped establish the Sinister Six, a team of supervillains united against Spider-Man. His short name, “Doc Ock,” is commonly used in comics, films, animation, and other adaptations.

A common mix-up is confusing Otto Octavius with other Spider-Man villains whose civilian names are also linked to science or technology. Maxwell Dillon is Electro, Adrian Toomes is the Vulture, and Victor Octavius is not Doctor Octopus’s canonical identity.
