Who is the professor in the Kanto region?

The professor in the Kanto region is Professor Oak.

Professor Samuel Oak is the leading Pokémon researcher in the original Kanto storyline. He lives and works in a laboratory in Pallet Town, where he introduces new Trainers to Pokémon and gives them a choice of Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle in the original games. He also provides the Pokédex and begins the player’s journey.

Oak first appeared in Pokémon Red and Green in Japan in 1996, later becoming a major recurring character in the anime. In Pokémon: The Series, he gives Ash Ketchum a Pikachu after Ash arrives too late to receive one of the usual starter Pokémon. Oak’s grandson, Gary in the anime and Blue in the games, is also the player’s rival.

The common mix-up is confusing Oak with other regional professors. Elm is associated with Johto, Birch with Hoenn, and Sycamore with Kalos. Professor Samson Oak, meanwhile, is Oak’s cousin and works in Alola.
