Who is the only player to win three FIFA World Cup tournaments?

The story behind the answer

Pelé is the only player to win three FIFA World Cup tournaments.

He lifted the trophy with Brazil in 1958, 1962, and 1970. Pelé was 17 when Brazil won in Sweden in 1958, scored twice in the final, and became the tournament’s youngest final scorer. In 1962, injury limited his involvement, but Brazil retained the title. In 1970, he played a central role in one of the most celebrated World Cup teams and scored in the final against Italy.

Pelé’s record is sometimes confused with Brazil’s team record. Brazil has won the World Cup five times, but no other individual player has collected three winner’s medals. Players such as Cafu and Ronaldo won two tournaments, while several champions appeared in multiple editions without winning three.
