Who is the only head coach to win the FIFA World Cup twice?
Answer
Vittorio Pozzo
Vittorio Pozzo is the only head coach to win the FIFA World Cup twice.
Pozzo led Italy to victory at the 1934 World Cup, hosted in Italy, and again at the 1938 World Cup in France. Italy defeated Czechoslovakia after extra time in the 1934 final and beat Hungary 4–2 in the 1938 final.
His Italian teams were known for their disciplined tactical structure and use of the Metodo system, a formation associated with the 2–3–2–3 shape. Pozzo also coached Italy to the gold medal at the 1936 Olympic football tournament.
Several other figures have won two World Cups in different roles. Brazil’s Mário Zagallo won as a player twice and later as a coach, while Franz Beckenbauer and Didier Deschamps won once as players and once as coaches. None has matched Pozzo’s two titles solely as head coach.
