Who is the main playable character in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag?

Edward Kenway is the main playable character in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

Edward is a Welsh privateer who becomes involved with the Assassin–Templar conflict while sailing through the Caribbean during the early eighteenth century. His pursuit of wealth and reputation draws him into events much larger than piracy.

The character is also connected to the wider Kenway family. Edward is the father of Haytham Kenway and the grandfather of Ratonhnhaké:ton, also known as Connor, who appear in Assassin's Creed III.

Players sometimes confuse Edward with his son or grandson because all three belong to the same family and are playable protagonists in different games. Black Flag, however, is specifically Edward's story and emphasizes naval exploration, ship battles, and piracy.
