Who is the leader of the Whisperers?

Alpha is the leader of the Whisperers in The Walking Dead. The Whisperers are a survivalist group that disguises itself by wearing walker skin, allowing members to move among the undead without attracting attention. Alpha enforces the group’s belief that civilization and emotional attachments make people weak.

In the television series, Alpha’s real name is Dee, and she is portrayed by Samantha Morton. She first becomes a major antagonist during the second half of season 9 and remains central through season 10. Her daughter, Lydia, is also a member of the Whisperers, although Alpha treats her harshly and insists that Lydia use her title rather than “mother.”

Alpha is often confused with Beta, her enormous and fiercely loyal second-in-command, or Gamma, another prominent Whisperer. Neither leads the group while Alpha is alive. After Alpha’s death, Beta briefly assumes leadership, but the Whisperers’ campaign ultimately collapses during their conflict with Alexandria and its allied communities. The character appears in both the comic and television versions of The Walking Dead, though details of her backstory and relationships differ.
