Who is the Green Goblin's secret identity?

The story behind the answer

The Green Goblin’s secret identity is Norman Osborn. He is a wealthy industrialist, the founder of Oscorp, and the father of Peter Parker’s friend Harry Osborn.

Norman first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #23 in 1965, initially as an unnamed business associate. The Green Goblin himself debuted earlier, in The Amazing Spider-Man #14 in 1964, but the character’s identity was kept mysterious for years. The comics eventually revealed that Norman was the man behind the mask.

The Green Goblin’s powers and equipment come from scientific experimentation and advanced technology, including glider weapons, explosive pumpkin bombs, and razor-edged projectiles. Harry Osborn later also becomes the Green Goblin in different storylines, which explains a common mix-up. However, the original and most iconic identity is Norman Osborn. In the 2002 film, Willem Dafoe plays Norman and his Goblin alter ego.
