Cormoran Strike is the detective at the center of J.K. Rowling’s crime series published under the name Robert Galbraith.
Strike is a private investigator and former military police investigator. He first appears in The Cuckoo’s Calling, where he investigates the death of model Lula Landry. The case establishes his methods, financial difficulties, and complicated personal life.
Robin Ellacott becomes Strike’s temporary secretary at the beginning of the series. Their professional partnership develops across later investigations and becomes one of the series’ continuing storylines. The books combine individual murder cases with longer character arcs.
The character’s name is sometimes shortened to Strike, but Cormoran Strike is the canonical full name. The series is separate from Rowling’s fantasy novels and is written as adult contemporary crime fiction, with London and other British locations forming much of its setting.
