Who is the CEO of Tesla?

The story behind the answer

Who is the CEO of Tesla? Elon Musk is the CEO of Tesla.

Musk joined Tesla’s board in 2004 and became chief executive officer in October 2008. Tesla’s own corporate biography describes him as both its co-founder and CEO, responsible for product design, engineering, and global manufacturing across its electric vehicles, batteries, and solar-energy businesses.

The company was founded in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, so a common misconception is that Musk was the sole original founder. He became an early major investor and a central leader, and Tesla later recognized him and several others as co-founders after a legal settlement. Under Musk, Tesla introduced the Roadster, Model S, Model X, Model 3, and later Model Y.

The wrong choices point to other technology leaders: Tim Cook leads Apple, Sundar Pichai leads Alphabet, and Jeff Bezos founded Amazon but is no longer its CEO. Musk also leads SpaceX and has founded companies including Neuralink and The Boring Company.
