J.K. Rowling is the author of the Harry Potter novels.
The series consists of seven main books, beginning with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 1997 and ending with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in 2007. Together, they follow Harry’s education at Hogwarts and his struggle against Lord Voldemort.
Rowling’s professional name was chosen for publishing purposes. “J.K.” combines her first initial with a K selected in honor of her grandmother Kathleen. Rowling has also published adult fiction under her own name and crime novels under Robert Galbraith.
The Harry Potter books became a worldwide publishing phenomenon, translated into dozens of languages and adapted into eight feature films. The stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was later credited to Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany, and is set after the original novels.
