Who is Goldberry’s husband in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings?
Answer
Tom Bombadil
Answer
Tom Bombadil
Tom Bombadil is Goldberry’s husband in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.
Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin meet Tom Bombadil and Goldberry during their journey through the Old Forest. Goldberry is introduced as the River-woman’s daughter, and Bombadil calls her the “River-daughter.” Their home provides the hobbits with shelter after their frightening encounter with Old Man Willow.
Tom Bombadil is one of the most mysterious figures in the book. The One Ring has no visible effect on him, and he can see Frodo while the Ring is being worn. Tolkien never gives him a simple, definitive origin within the narrative. Goldberry is sometimes mistaken for a fairy-like version of Galadriel, but the two characters are unrelated and occupy very different roles in the story.
