Who is credited with creating the original Grave Digger monster truck?
Answer
Dennis Anderson
Answer
Dennis Anderson
Dennis Anderson is credited with creating the original Grave Digger monster truck.
Anderson built Grave Digger in 1982 as a mud-racing truck from salvaged parts, including a red 1952 Ford pickup body. The name came from his boast that he would use the “old junk” to dig his rivals a grave. The rough-looking truck soon became a crowd favorite at local events.
Grave Digger’s transition to monster-truck fame happened when another truck failed to appear at a show. Anderson offered to crush cars with his oversized-tire mud truck, and the stunt was an instant success. He later rebuilt the vehicle as a dedicated monster truck, using a 1951 Ford panel-van body.
A common mix-up is confusing the truck’s creator with later drivers. Bob Chandler created Bigfoot, while Tom Meents became famous driving Maximum Destruction. Anderson remained Grave Digger’s defining original driver and later helped guide the team after selling it to Pace Motorsports in 1998.
