One of the earliest monster trucks built by Everett Jasmer and raced alongside Bigfoot was USA-1.
Jasmer developed USA-1 from his four-wheel-drive and truck-building interests in Minnesota. Like Bob Chandler’s Bigfoot, the truck began as a heavily modified pickup used to promote an off-road business and compete in mud, pulling, and exhibition events. Its name came from Chevrolet’s “USA-1” pickup advertising and license-plate theme.
USA-1 and Bigfoot became defining names in the sport’s formative years. In August 1983, they took part in what is widely described as the first nationally televised side-by-side monster-truck race, filmed for That’s Incredible! The rivalry helped move monster trucks from sideshow attractions into a more organized racing spectacle.
USA-1 remained competitive after Jasmer stopped driving. Rod Litzau helped drive it to the 1988 TNT Monster Truck Racing Series championship, edging Bigfoot in the standings. The truck’s history is sometimes confused with later vehicles that borrowed the USA-1 name, but Jasmer’s original machine is the one meant here.
