In which country did the sport of monster trucking originate?
Answer
United States
Answer
United States
The sport of monster trucking originated in the United States. Its roots were in American off-road activities, especially mud bogging, truck pulling, and car-crushing demonstrations that grew popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Bob Chandler’s Bigfoot is widely associated with the sport’s beginnings. Chandler began modifying a Ford F-250 in Missouri, adding larger tires and heavy-duty running gear. Bigfoot appeared publicly in 1979, and in 1981 Chandler drove it over junked cars near St. Louis. A later public demonstration helped turn the unusual vehicle into a mass-audience attraction.
The phrase “monster truck” also emerged in the United States. In the early 1980s, promoter Bob George is credited with using it to describe Bigfoot, and the term soon became the generic name for similar oversized trucks. Early shows often featured monster trucks as supporting acts at motocross, tractor-pulling, and mud-bogging events.
Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom later developed strong monster-truck audiences and events, but they were not the birthplace of the sport. The earliest widely recognized trucks, promoters, and public demonstrations were American.
