Who is credited as Mario Kart World’s art director?

The story behind the answer

Masaaki Ishikawa is credited as the art director of Mario Kart World.

Ishikawa helped shape the visual direction of Nintendo’s open-world kart racer. The game expands beyond traditional closed circuits with connected roads, off-road areas, changing environments, boats, rail-grinding sections, and many characters who populate the wider world.

His role is distinct from the game’s producer and composers. Kosuke Yabuki is credited as producer, while Atsuko Asahi led the music team. Kenta Sato is credited among the game’s directors and as its programmer. These overlapping credits can make staff questions easy to mix up.

The development team also linked the world’s non-player drivers to a visual design idea involving a Cow from Moo Moo Meadows. A sketch of the Cow driving a truck helped inspire the broader concept of turning course inhabitants into active traffic and obstacles.
