Who is Aragorn’s father in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth?
Answer
Arathorn II
Answer
Arathorn II
Aragorn’s father in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth is Arathorn II.
Arathorn II was a Dúnedain chieftain and the father of Aragorn, who later became King Elessar. Arathorn married Gilraen, and their son was born in 2931 of the Third Age. Arathorn was killed by orc archers when Aragorn was still a child.
After Arathorn’s death, Aragorn was raised in Rivendell under the protection of Elrond. Elrond gave him the name Estel, meaning “Hope,” to conceal his royal identity while he was growing up. Aragorn later learned his true heritage and became heir to the thrones of Arnor and Gondor.
Arathorn II is often confused with earlier figures in Aragorn’s ancestry, especially Isildur and Elendil. Isildur was Aragorn’s distant ancestor and a king of Gondor, while Elendil was the founder of the kingdoms in exile. Neither was Aragorn’s father.
