Who invented the Tangle Teezer and pitched it on the British television show Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

Shaun Pulfrey invented the Tangle Teezer and pitched it on the British television show Dragon's Den.

Pulfrey was a hairdresser and colourist when he developed a brush designed to remove tangles without pulling hair in the same way as conventional brushes. He initially called the product the Hairbraider and later developed the Tangle Teezer brand.

Pulfrey appeared on Dragon's Den in 2007 seeking investment. The dragons did not make an offer, so the company proceeded without a deal from the programme. The product nevertheless became a major commercial success and was sold internationally.

A common mix-up is to credit Dragon's Den with launching every successful product shown on the programme. Tangle Teezer is a notable counterexample: its appearance gave the invention exposure, but Pulfrey retained control and built the business outside the show's investment agreements.
