Who holds the Masters record for most top-ten finishes?

The story behind the answer

Jack Nicklaus holds the Masters record for most top-ten finishes, with 22.

Nicklaus played the Masters 45 times from 1959 through 2005 and won six green jackets, still the tournament record. His 22 top-ten finishes reflect remarkable consistency across nearly five decades, not just his six victories.

The record is easy to confuse with related Masters marks. Nicklaus also owns the records for most wins and most cuts made, but Tiger Woods holds the separate record for consecutive cuts made. Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan and Woods were all prolific contenders, yet none matched Nicklaus's total of top-ten results.

Nicklaus's Masters résumé also includes four runner-up finishes and 15 top-five finishes. His final victory came in 1986 at age 46, making him the tournament's oldest champion.
