Evan Davis has presented the BBC television series Dragon's Den since its first episode in 2005.
Davis is a British journalist, economist and broadcaster. Before joining Dragon's Den, he was best known for presenting BBC Radio 4's Today programme and Newsnight. His role on the business series is to introduce the entrepreneurs, manage the pitch-room discussion and oversee the transition between presentations.
The programme's investors are called Dragons, while the entrepreneurs seeking investment are usually called contestants or pitchers. Davis is not an investor, so he does not negotiate equity or contribute money to deals. That distinction is a common source of confusion because he is the most consistently visible person outside the panel.
Dragon's Den is based on the Japanese format Money Tigers. The British version began in 2005 and became one of the BBC's long-running factual-entertainment programmes.
