T.J. Lavin has hosted The Challenge since its eleventh season. The BMX champion became the show's regular host after earlier installments used several different presenters and occasional cast members to deliver missions.
The series began in 1998 as Road Rules: All Stars, then became Real World/Road Rules Challenge before eventually shortening its name to The Challenge. Its original contestants largely came from MTV's The Real World and Road Rules, but the casting pool later expanded to other reality franchises and international editions.
Lavin's connection with the program is sometimes confused with its famous competitors. Johnny Bananas, CT Tamburello, and Wes Bergmann are major contestants, not the long-running host. Lavin also hosts related programs, including The Challenge: All Stars and The Challenge: USA, reinforcing his association with the franchise.
