The reality series The Hills first premiered in 2006.
MTV debuted The Hills on May 31, 2006, as a spin-off of Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County. The program initially followed Lauren Conrad as she moved to Los Angeles, began an internship at Teen Vogue, and navigated friendships, work, and relationships.
The series became one of MTV’s best-known reality programs and helped establish personalities including Audrina Patridge, Whitney Port, and Heidi Montag. Conrad left after the fifth season, after which the show continued with a changed focus.
Some viewers confuse The Hills with Laguna Beach, which premiered in 2004, or with The Hills: New Beginnings, a later revival. The original series began in 2006 and ran for six seasons, ending in 2010.
