Who has been the presenter of Dragon's Den since its first British series?

The story behind the answer

Evan Davis has presented the British television series Dragon's Den since its first series.

Davis is a British journalist, economist and broadcaster. Before becoming associated with Dragon's Den, he was known for his work with the BBC, including economics reporting and presentation of business and current-affairs programmes. His role on Dragon's Den is mainly to introduce the pitches and guide the audience through the negotiations.

Unlike the Dragons, Davis does not invest in the businesses being presented. The investors sit behind the entrepreneurs and decide whether to make offers, while the presenter provides continuity between pitches and explains key developments.

Davis is also widely associated with BBC Radio 4's PM and other BBC programmes. His continuing presence helps distinguish the British series across changes to the investor panel. He is not the same person as the show's American counterpart presenters, whose hosting arrangements have differed.
