Who founded Walmart in 1962?
Answer
Sam Walton
Answer
Sam Walton
Sam Walton founded Walmart in 1962.
Walton opened the first Walmart store in Rogers, Arkansas, on July 2, 1962. His retail strategy emphasized low prices, high sales volume, and stores serving smaller communities that larger chains often overlooked.
Before Walmart, Walton operated Ben Franklin variety stores and developed many of the practices that later shaped Walmart’s growth. The company expanded rapidly across the United States and became one of the world’s largest retailers.
Walmart is sometimes confused with Sam’s Club, the membership warehouse chain launched by Walmart in 1983. Walmart’s first store was also not the first retail business Walton ever operated; it was the first store using the Walmart name.
