Who founded the kingdom of Númenor in J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium?

The story behind the answer

Elros founded the kingdom of Númenor in J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium. He was the half-elven son of Eärendil and Elwing and the twin brother of Elrond. Unlike Elrond, Elros chose the fate of Men rather than that of the Elves.

After the War of Wrath, the Valar rewarded the Men who had opposed Morgoth by giving them the island of Númenor. Elros became its first king in the year 32 of the Second Age and took the royal name Tar-Minyatur, meaning “High First Ruler.” His reign began the Númenórean royal line.

Elros lived for five centuries and died in the year 442 of the Second Age. His descendants included famous figures such as Elendil and Isildur. Elrond did not rule Númenor; he remained in Middle-earth and later established Rivendell as an Elven refuge.
