Who founded Emojipedia, the online reference for emoji meanings and designs?

The story behind the answer

Jeremy Burge founded Emojipedia, the online reference for emoji meanings, histories, and platform designs.

Emojipedia launched in 2013 as a searchable guide to the symbols appearing on phones, websites, and messaging services. Its pages explain official Unicode names, code points, appearance changes, and differences between vendors.

Burge became a prominent commentator on emoji and served as an observer at Unicode Consortium meetings. Emojipedia is independent of the companies that draw many emoji images, so it can compare how a single Unicode character appears on Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung, and other systems.

A common mix-up is treating Emojipedia as the body that approves emoji. It is not. The Unicode Consortium manages the standardization process, while Emojipedia documents the resulting characters and their implementations for the public.
