Which Unicode version was published in 2015 and introduced the taco emoji?

The story behind the answer

Unicode 8.0 was published in 2015 and introduced the taco emoji.

The Unicode Consortium released version 8.0 on 17 June 2015. Its additions included new characters for scripts and symbols, as well as emoji such as TACO, CHEESE WEDGE, HOT DOG, BURRITO and UNICORN FACE. These additions helped broaden the food and cultural range available in emoji communication.

Unicode’s role is to define encoded characters and their properties, not to dictate one universal illustration. A device maker decides how its taco emoji looks, so shells, fillings and colors can differ between platforms. Support also depends on the software version installed by the user.

Unicode 8.0 is sometimes confused with Emoji 1.0, a later emoji-focused specification that organized emoji data and sequences. The character definitions came through Unicode, while later vendors handled rendering and rollout on their own schedules.
