Who edited J.R.R. Tolkien’s posthumously published novel The Children of Húrin?
Answer
Christopher Tolkien
Answer
Christopher Tolkien
Christopher Tolkien edited J.R.R. Tolkien’s posthumously published novel The Children of Húrin.
The book was published in 2007, decades after J.R.R. Tolkien’s death. Christopher Tolkien assembled and edited the narrative from his father’s writings, including versions that had been published in other forms and manuscripts that had remained incomplete or varied.
The story concerns Túrin Turambar, the son of Húrin, and belongs to the tragic legends of Middle-earth’s First Age. Unlike a simple collection of notes, the 2007 volume presents a continuous narrative with illustrations by Alan Lee, while Christopher’s commentary and editorial work helped explain its textual history.
Christopher Tolkien served for many years as the principal editor and literary executor of his father’s Middle-earth papers. He also edited The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, and the twelve-volume History of Middle-earth.
