Who edited J.R.R. Tolkien’s posthumous book The Children of Húrin?

The story behind the answer

Christopher Tolkien edited J.R.R. Tolkien’s posthumous book The Children of Húrin.

The book was published in 2007, many years after Tolkien’s death. Christopher Tolkien assembled and edited material from his father’s manuscripts, presenting a relatively complete version of the tragedy of Túrin Turambar and his sister Nienor in the First Age.

J.R.R. Tolkien had written versions of this story in several forms and at different stages of his life, but he never completed a definitive standalone edition for publication. Christopher compared texts, resolved variations where possible, and supplied editorial framing. He had already edited major posthumous works including The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales. The book is therefore neither a newly written novel by Christopher nor a previously published complete novel by J.R.R. Tolkien.
