Who directed the Season 2 premiere, “Chapter 9: The Marshal”?
Answer
Jon Favreau
Answer
Jon Favreau
Jon Favreau directed the Season 2 premiere, “Chapter 9: The Marshal.” He also wrote the episode, which marked his directorial debut on The Mandalorian after serving as the series’ creator and showrunner.
The episode follows Din Djarin as he searches for another Mandalorian on Tatooine. His search leads him to Cobb Vanth, the marshal of Mos Pelgo, who possesses Boba Fett’s armor. Din agrees to help Vanth and the townspeople confront a krayt dragon, producing the episode’s major action set piece.
Favreau had written many Season 1 episodes but did not direct them because of scheduling commitments, including work connected with The Lion King. His direction of “The Marshal” therefore represented a notable behind-the-scenes change. Robert Rodriguez directed the later Season 2 episode “Chapter 14: The Tragedy,” Dave Filoni directed “The Tragedy” and other episodes, and Peyton Reed directed “Chapter 10: The Passenger,” which explains why those names are plausible but incorrect alternatives.
