Who directed the music video for Adele's 'Hello'?

Xavier Dolan directed the music video for Adele’s “Hello.” Dolan is a Canadian actor, filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer who was known for emotionally intense, visually distinctive films before making the video.

The “Hello” video was filmed over four days in September 2015 on a farm in Quebec and was released on October 23, 2015, one day before the single’s release. Its sepia-toned imagery follows Adele singing inside a rural house and making a phone call connected to a recently ended relationship. Tristan Wilds co-stars as her former love interest.

Dolan used IMAX cameras for portions of the video, including the opening shot and the finale filmed near a pond. That made “Hello” the first music video released in IMAX format. The retro flip phone seen in the video also attracted attention, but it was a deliberate artistic choice: Dolan wanted the setting to feel removed from contemporary technology and advertising imagery.

Jake Nava, another prominent music-video director, directed Adele’s “Someone like You,” not “Hello.”
