Who directed the film Up?

The story behind the answer

Who directed the film Up? Pete Docter directed it. The 2009 Pixar feature was Docter’s second feature-length directorial project, following Monsters, Inc. He also co-wrote the screenplay with Bob Peterson, while Tom McCarthy contributed to the story.

Docter developed Up from the idea of escaping ordinary life when it becomes overwhelming. That concept became Carl Fredricksen’s balloon-powered journey from his home to Paradise Falls. The film’s emotional core combines Carl’s grief over Ellie with his unexpected relationship with Russell, making the adventure both a physical journey and a story about finding a new purpose.

A common mix-up is confusing Docter with other major Pixar filmmakers. John Lasseter directed Toy Story and Cars, Brad Bird directed The Incredibles and Ratatouille, and Andrew Stanton directed Finding Nemo and WALL-E. Docter later directed Inside Out and Soul, both of which, like Up, won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
