Who directed the 2014 sci-fi film "Edge of Tomorrow"?

Doug Liman directed the 2014 science-fiction action film Edge of Tomorrow. The movie stars Tom Cruise as Major William Cage and Emily Blunt as Rita Vrataski, soldiers fighting an alien invasion in a future Europe.

The story follows Cage after he is forced into a disastrous military landing. When he dies in battle, he mysteriously relives the same day, retaining memories of each attempt. Working with Rita, he uses the repeating timeline to learn how the alien forces operate and search for a way to change the outcome.

Edge of Tomorrow was adapted from Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s Japanese light novel All You Need Is Kill. Christopher McQuarrie, Jez Butterworth, and John-Henry Butterworth wrote the screenplay. The film was later marketed prominently with the tagline and alternate title Live Die Repeat.

Liman was already known for directing films such as Swingers, The Bourne Identity, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Edge of Tomorrow combined his action filmmaking with a time-loop structure that is often compared with Groundhog Day, though its setting is a large-scale alien war.
