Who directed the 2014 French film Beauty and the Beast, starring Léa Seydoux?
Answer
Christophe Gans
Answer
Christophe Gans
Christophe Gans directed the 2014 French film Beauty and the Beast, starring Léa Seydoux.
Gans's film, titled La Belle et la Bête in French, is a visually elaborate adaptation of Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve's fairy tale tradition. Seydoux played Belle, while Vincent Cassel played the Beast. The production used extensive digital effects to create its enchanted palace, magical creatures, and shifting dream imagery.
The 2014 film is not a direct remake of Disney's animated version. It returns to a darker European fairy-tale atmosphere and includes additional backstory for the Beast, including his life before the curse.
Christophe Gans is also known for directing Brotherhood of the Wolf and Silent Hill. His Beauty and the Beast belongs to the long line of French screen adaptations that followed the 1946 Cocteau film.
