Who directed the 2009 stop-motion film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr. Fox?

The story behind the answer

Wes Anderson directed the 2009 stop-motion film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr. Fox.

The film adapts Dahl’s 1970 children’s book about a clever fox who steals food from three farmers to feed his family and neighboring animals. Anderson also co-wrote the screenplay with Noah Baumbach, adapting the short original story into a feature-length adventure.

Fantastic Mr. Fox was produced using stop-motion animation rather than computer-generated imagery. Its distinctive visual style, dry humor, and handmade puppets became closely associated with Anderson’s filmmaking. The voice cast included George Clooney as Mr. Fox and Meryl Streep as Mrs. Fox.

The film is sometimes confused with other Dahl adaptations such as 1996’s Matilda or 2009’s The BFG, but Fantastic Mr. Fox was Anderson’s first animated feature and his first film made with stop-motion techniques.
