Who directed the 2001 film Jurassic Park III?

The story behind the answer

Joe Johnston directed the 2001 film Jurassic Park III.

Johnston’s film is the third theatrical entry in the original Jurassic Park series and returns Sam Neill as paleontologist Alan Grant. The story places Grant and a small group on Isla Sorna, where a search mission becomes a struggle to escape the island’s dinosaurs.

The movie differs in scale and structure from Steven Spielberg’s two earlier entries. It is a fast-moving survival adventure, with the Spinosaurus serving as its most prominent dinosaur threat and a major set piece involving an aviary full of flying reptiles.

Joe Johnston had previously directed films including Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Jumanji, and October Sky. Jurassic Park III was released in 2001, several years before the franchise was relaunched with Jurassic World in 2015. Steven Spielberg served as an executive producer rather than director.
