Who directed the 2001 animated film Shrek?

Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson directed the 2001 animated film Shrek.

Adamson and Jenson shared directing duties on the first feature in the franchise. Adamson later directed Shrek 2 and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, while Jenson went on to direct Shark Tale and Post Grad.

The film was produced by DreamWorks Animation and adapted loosely from William Steig’s picture book Shrek!. The directors helped shape its unusual blend of fairy-tale parody, modern jokes, emotional character development, and popular music.

The film’s success established the visual and comic style that later Shrek productions expanded. Shrek was also notable for being among the earliest computer-animated features to receive broad mainstream recognition outside the Disney-Pixar system.
